From August until September I was busy working on my house! After 5 months of feeling nauseous, tired, sluggish and vomiting, I was ready for some pro-active activities! It was not easy trying to put in time for these many ideas I had written down, or finding the money to do so. I would stay up very late, until 11pm sewing or painting under the flood light outside. Then I would get up at 6am to keep sanding, putting on coats of paint...get kids ready for school in between...go to gym until 10am...work until 11am...then get ready for work by 12. I did that schedule for a few months! The belly was in the way, my kids were a bit neglected and I even was guilty of doing some work on the Sabbath. Oh well, got her done!
My good friend Lindsey Allen inspired me with redoing my front "study" room. What used to have an ugly Ikea bookshelf, dark lighting, random books and clutter...became a well lit and bright study for my boys to play board games (and for me to hide and eat my food in peace and quiet). Lindsey and I spent a few Saturdays hitting up the Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other random spots for furniture. We then sanded, primed and spray painted the table, chairs, chandelier and other accessories. I was hooked after that! Some other projects included:
~ homemade chalk painted crib (a huge disaster b/c it took me 7 coats of the paint which turned into concrete after just 30 min of using it, then buying more paint, more sanding down and more priming)
~milk paint: blue hutch and light blue desk
~4x4 canvas that I sanded down (and burned a hole which I needed to repair), then had Julia Morris draw and April Harris paint a picture that I picked out on line of our family tree
~ My mom helped make table runners for the end tables, and I spray painted more frames of family pics.
~hot pink dresser with spray paint (from an expresso brown finish....many coats were used and I even had to call and complain for some free cans b/c they were "dusty" and wouldn't stick to the wood. Lindsey helped me spray the final top coat with no streaks!)
~ White sofa table that I bought second hand in a cream finish. After it was white, we then added the teal blue lamps and temple picture.
~ Holiday projects: a Halloween wreath, Thanksgiving banner, Christmas wreath and advent calender
~ Silver antiqued mirror that used to be brown/black leather
~Downstairs bathroom accessories; new shelves, towels, rug, vanity and mirror
~Chalk paint on a little dresser with birds on it, which I now use for piano music storage.
~New pillows for family room, piano room and green trim on the curtains (sewing!!!)
~Ruby's room! Accessories for the wall (maternity pics, large letter R, wood sign, bedding from Ms Jan, lamp shade and canvas boards for newborn pics)
