Three Hour Root Canal

I had part of a molar chip off sometime back in 2007. Ignorant me, I didn't get it taken care of right away b/c I could still floss the majority of the food out of the tooth. I then got pregnant. Pregnant women + dentists do not mesh. They would not take care of my broken tooth the entire time b/c of the x-rays that had to be taken. Soooo....we are now in 2009 and what did I end up with? Yep, a good ol' root canal, soon to be filling and crown.

Let's admit it...no one likes the dentist. There's an awkward silence as they are jabbing into your mouth. I feel insecure about how close they are to my skin pores. Do you open your eyes and stare right back at them, or do you close your eyes and
pretend to actually be relaxed? How can anyone relax when those chainsaw sounds are so close to your ears? I always leave smelling like latex gloves or metal.

I headed over to the dentist on Tuesday.

Day One: (1.5 hours)
4 shots for the numbing....the drilling began...WAIT! I can still feel the pain!!! 2 more shots...
x-rays
Lots of drillings
Smell of burnt teeth
Scrape, shove and jab
Staring way down into my mouth
My poor jaw had to stay open, unassisted for the entire time (very sore, two days later)
Don't ask me questions when I have so many instruments in my mouth!

The end result? I have long and narrow roots, not to mention that there were FOUR nerve endings. After shoving the little metal sticks back and forth, my dentist told me she couldn't reach down to all of the ones at the bottom....so....I would need to go to a specialist. You mean I got this numb, from my eyebrow-ear-jaw for nothin'? I left with a taste of METAL in my mouth, couldn't open my jaw, ate only a few things that day...like yogurt and pudding.

Day Two (1.5 hours)

The "specialist" asks me if I have been in a lot of pain...um, no. Should I be? What is going on with my teeth? I have all sorts of questions for her, but can't ask them b/c she is too busy agressively putting in more huge needles for the numbing into my mouth.

She then asks me if I have tall people in my family? No, why? She tells me that my roots are soooo long. What does that mean? Is that okay that my teeth have long roots? I have no idea!

More x-rays
Drilling (besides the burning teeth smell, I now listen to what sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard right by my ears)
Digging...this lady is literally holding my head down as she shoves those pliers in and out...scary!
Microscopes
More scraping
More x-rays
Patching up

Done?

Almost. $500 later I am out the door (and that is with insurance). I still have to go back for a filling and crown.

Moral of the lesson? Get to the dentist
if your tooth cracks! I haven't had a cavity since high school (thank goodness), I am a daily flosser, I brush daily...but, I still couldn't avoid the attack of the root canal monster. I must be getting old.

Shopping + Yoga

I was anxious to find something to wear for my baby Isaac's blessing today. So....out to the mall I headed to find some clothing for my new curves. I went throughout the entire mall and did not have much luck. It didn't help that I went to my favorite stores: Forever 21, Charolette Russe and Wet Seal. Even when I am at a "regular" size, I still wear their size L. So, my new figure is more like a Lane Bryant type store (ha ha). Seriously though, I don't know what it is with me and my lack of fashion. Everything I saw was so new to me. I do like some of the ruffles that are on the dress shirts, but who knew how much the 80's are back in style: turqoise corduroy pants, hot pink leggins, tight sweater dresses, etc. I ended up running to Kohl's las minute, and although their styles are definitely not sexy, they are practical and good for a mama. I settled for a cute chocolate brown skirt and jacket.

Did I mention how much fun it is to shop with a newborn and toddler in tote? My favorite part is nursing in the fitting room...in front of the mirror where I can see my gut hanging out over my pants and Austin is crawling underneath the door or opening up the stall for the world to see me. Isaac is a good sport, except for his blow outs and binkie falling out issues.

Triangle, downward dog, chair pose, warrior 2, third eye. Yes. I have become a Yoga fan. I have been going to a weekly Yoga class for the last three weeks. The instructor is this black gay man who is wonderful. He has a calming voice, and the best part about him is that he will come over and fix your posture and challenge you to stretch higher and harder. I am not flexible at all, and so this is helping me out a lot to even reach my toes. Once again, it is hard being the out of shape and chubby girl, but it is motivation for me to continue on. I have always admired chubby/fat people going to the gym, but haven't thought much about their situation or their feelings. Now that I am one of those people, I really do have a lot of empathy for the not-so-perfect figures out there. I was in great shape pre-Isaac, and so I am determined to get back there! Yoga is my time to just focus on my body movements. I may not ever be the one doing the headstand, but I can at least sweat away my torso while I am reaching for the sun.

Isaac's blessing was today. I will post pics soon. We have had three sets of parents staying with us in the last month. B U S Y. Full house. Lots of grocery trips. Lots of vacumming, dishes, and cleaning toilets, bedtime stories, kisses, meals and smiles. Wilson's are here until end of the week now and my mom headed out to Utah today. Here we go again!

Got ears?

Earplug o earplug
How I love to use you at night
You drown out the noise
Despite Isaac's screaming frights

I love your squishy and soft body
You bring me such peace
A constant companion you are
Just like a warm and fuzzy fleece

Please never leave me
I need you to stay
At least until Isaac's noises
Are far far away

Earplug o earplug
I am so happy you're mine
Jump back into my ears
To my dreamland divine

(A sidenote: Isaac sleeps next to me in his pack and play. I am such a light sleeper that I wake up to every sound. His grunting noises are just minimized with the ear plugs. I can even wake up to my boys crying, with my ear plugs, in their rooms down the hall! I DO love my purple ear plugs!)

Visitors

A shout out to mother's!  Little Isaac is super gassy and fussy at night time...it's so exhausting to try and relieve him of his grunting, cramps and pains. Anyone have any good ideas?

On a side note...my mom and Oscar (her fiance from Argentina) are here for the week. It's fun for my kids to be around people other than mama. Although, truth be told, they totally take advantage of them! When
I am feeding the babe, they'll try out new tests to see what they can get away with. It's frustrating to see them act so wild when I am not around! Spanish is the only
thing being spoken in our household all week long. My mom seems very happy with Oscar:)

My best friend Arianne Pearce also came out for a quick trip last week. Oh how I miss her in my life! The way that she just swept through my house to keep it well organized, and was so
involved with my boys was lovely. She always is up for a good conversation, is willing to stay up late at night with the baby (which I didn't let her, but she wanted to), and of course is my favorite working out partner. Despite our distance across the US, we are making
this friendship work! I can't wait to see her again. She made Isaac'
s beautiful bedding...rustic orange and chocolate brown were his colors. I love love love it!

Jared took me out to a fancy place, The Comus Inn at Sugarloaf Mountain for V-day. It was a 6 course meal. (Small portions). We ate Oyster for the first time, and despite the long 2 hour service, it was nice to get out. I always tell Jared that I wonder if we will run out of things to talk about (other than our kids or work) when we are older and at a restaurant. So far we are still very much in love, but after a long day of work for Jared and a frazzled day of kids for me....even we were quiet in our conversation! It was fun for me to wear my hooker boots once again and squeeze into a skirt.

The boys and I gave Jared a "Heart Attack" at work. We stuck homemade hearts all over his office. I wrote him a cheesy poem. How cheesy? The last two lines read: We love you papa, we're never gonna stoppa!  I had to be sneaky for him not to see me. The boys loved, "Valestime's Day" b/c of the candy, new super hero PJ's and cards.

Three weeks old

We had fun taking some pics of Isaac's yummy wrinkles, smiles, eyes, toes, fingers, etc. If only I could blog how sweet he smells and how soft his skin is! I continue to snuggle up on him as much as I can b/c already he is getting so big...so sad for this mama.
